The Beetle
Publisher: Skeffington & Son
Edition: Second Edition
Publish Year: 1897
Binding: Decorative Cloth
Condition: Good
Jacket Condition: No Jacket
Notes: The book is bound in the original red boards, strikingly illustrated and decorated, the binding is slightly cracked at points and is a little fragile. The boards are rubbed and bumped, but fairly clean. The text block is complete with the frontispiece and original floral endpapers, it is somewhat age toned with minor foxing and marking, it is free from inscriptions. A nice copy of the other supernatural title published in 1897: a genuinely chilling and grotesque tale, which, like the more famous novel from this year, also contains sensual and salacious elements, which doubtless helps to account for its enormous and enduring popularity with the Victorian and Edwardian readership. This second edition, in the same format, is also from 1897.
